To Bulk or to Cut: The Decision You Should Be Making for the Holidays

Where do I start… You’re a member of the Fitness Community.. Halloween’s already here. You’ll be eating a Turkey and listening to some Christmas Carols Before You Know it.. and the Holiday Feasts Come Along…

You know the ones I’m talking about: mouth stuffed, down to the last belt buckle: “should I just push back this cut until summer” pops into your head.. “maybe now’s a good time to bulk” [chimes another voice in the back of your head].

No;

Now is the best time to do what needs to be done: just like any other day, any other season, any other time of the year. So now let’s start: What are My Options?

1.) When to Bulk?

Are you already as lean as you should be? Are you between 8-12% bodyfat as a male or 13-17% as a female?? Then now is clear-cuttedly the time to bulk if you’re not a genetic outlier (maintaining this year-round) or competing for a [bodybuilding] show anytime soon. Put the shame down and pick the Plate Back Up: it’s time to eat heavy and lift even heavier!!

2.) When to Cut?

Are you above 15% bodyfat as a male or 23% as a female? Then it’s likely time to cut. Your body is more likely to store more fat when your bodyfat are in these ranges: you wouldn’t want that Turkey going to your gut, would you?? And definitely not the cake after dinnertime…

Perfect. So it’s time to make sure you’re moving at work or doing cardio a manageable amount of times per week while putting yourself in a caloric deficit, eat 0.8-1.2g/protein per pound you weigh, and lift as heavy as you can within the 6-12 range on those exercises and maintain as much muscle as you can!!

Sometimes, it’s easier to know when to, and when not to do something, and being told what to do and when to do it is an even easier way to go about things. For crowds that benefit for such a treatment, a Personal Trainer might be of use to you around such a season. While not entirely necessary, for many, it is Truly a Game-Changer!!
